Patrick's Flier Free Play of the Day:
Portland Trail Blazers @ Detroit Pistons
Portland Trail Blazers ML (+320)
Patrick's Real Free Play:
NCAAB Sweet Sixteen
Michigan vs Villanova (Under 135.5)
This is a small play, there is no doubt about it. While the Blazers might be the worst team in the NBA right now, the Detroit Pistons have no business as a 9-point favorite vs anyone. Now the Pistons are 2-0 as a favorite (both against the Magic), but for a 19-52 team to be a (-370) favorite and people are taking it, I am okay taking a flier on the Blazers. With no Josh Hart, the Blazers will be running a team of rookies and scrappy vets looking to seal another contract. No different than the Pistons. This line should be closer to (+200), so I am in for a small play.
There are a few factors going into this line, and I believe a few overreactions. The Blazers are (+9) because:
1) Josh Hart is Out.
2) Blazers are playing back-to-back
3) Blazers on road
4) Blazers are struggling.
The Blazers have played a tough schedule after the All-Star break. With 8 of their last 9 games on the road, that is not ideal for a young team. They are a team of rookies and fresh legs.. The back-to-back does not really hurt them much. While the Blazers are struggling, they have played a relatively tough schedule when you mix in the travel.
Sure the Blazers are bad and may lose this game by 25, but with some fiery young players and a vet like Kris Dunn playing on 10-day contracts for his career, I will take the Blazers in this matchup at least 1 out of 4 times as this (+320) line indicates.
Let's Roll.
